Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and it’s one of my favorite holidays for arts and crafts. Don’t ask me why.
Maybe it’s the welcome diversion from everything Christmas. Maybe it’s the idea that we’re making gifts for the ones we love most. Regardless, I get giddy this time of year and love to come up with new things to make, especially decorations.
Lately, I’ve been trying to make decorations that will last - things that I can keep and look back on, as the years fly by (as they always seem to do). Last year we started a Valentine keepsake garland, which we contributed to again this year. And this year, I decided to make something with pictures that I could cherish forever.
I’m no stranger to Instagram and those pictures usually wind up being my favorites. How does that saying go? The best camera is the one you have with you? So, I decided to make a piece of Valentine’s art out of pictures of my loves.
I chose the pictures I wanted to use, and ordered them here (I chose the 3×3 size). I love this site because the prints are cheap, and they mail the same day you order.
Once they arrived, I chose my frame, and cut a piece of white poster board to fit. Then I cut a heart out of scrap paper, to act as a pattern. I wanted to make sure all of the hearts were uniform in size.
After your hearts are cut, all that is left to do is arrange and attach.
I chose to not use the glass, so that I could mount the pictures with a little 3D effect (because that’s what I was aiming for). To do that, I used foam adhesive stickers. But you could easily attach with tape or dots of glue.
I love the finished result. It makes me smile every time I walk by, and I am sure it will for years to come. I’m keeping mine for me (Selfish? I think not.), but how cute would this be as a Valentine’s Gift for Grandma and Grandpa?
Happy Valentine’s Day, a little early!
P.S. Looking for more ways to simplify and connect with your family?
