Win $250 to spend on designer carpet tiles from FLOR

The Forever Home Project: Dining Room Update & $250 Giveaway

Along with buying gifts and getting the holidays cards done and out the door, a big part of this season is getting your home spruced up and looking it’s best – especially if you’ll be hosting Christmas dinner.  I’ve been working on just that around here lately.

Along with hanging the garland and putting out some poinsettias, I’ve also turned my attention to the spot where our guests will be feasting; the dining room.

I showed you our new table, chairs, and hutches in my last Forever Home Project update.  Today I want to show you the new rug that has finally banished most of the unsightly vinyl flooring in the room courtesy of MPMK’s newest sponsor, FLOR.

I also want to give you a chance to get a rug of your own! (See the rafflecopter at the end of the post to enter.)

FLOR designer carpet tiles - great for making odd-sized rugs plus you can clean and replace individual pieces if the get stained.

You may remember, this isn’t our first experience with FLOR.  It’s actually my third FLOR rug.  I put my first into my office way back before I even knew what a blog was.  Then we tried the designer carpet tiles in the living room of our last house.  I loved the flexibility of getting a rug just the size I needed, as well as the ability to pull up any of the squares and simply wash them in my kitchen sink if they got dirty.

In fact, it was those very features that brought FLOR to mind for our new dining room. I really didn’t want to spend a lot of money on an extra large rug, only to have it ruined the first time someone dropped their food on it (let’s face it – with 3 young children it’s bound to happen sooner rather than later).

Along with the tiles comes installation instructions and lots of dots (essentially stickers) to adhere them together.  At first I thought this system seemed a little flimsy but, trust me, after three experiences putting these rugs together I can assure you that the tiles aren’t going anywhere once set in place. The rubber padding on the bottom of each tile ensures it.

The first step is to layout your rug.  This is another area where you have a lot of flexibility with this product.  It’s possible to cut the tiles in order to get the exact size rug you need.  That’s exactly what I did in my office, using a lighter color for the inside of the rug and darker tiles (cut in half) to form an outer border.  Cutting the tiles is very easy but the company will also do it for you.

By the way, when it comes to planning your carpet, FLOR has tons of easy to use tools on their site to help you design something custom.  You can mix and match a myriad of carpet styles and easily come up with something uniquely you.  From personal design assistance over the phone, to pre-made rug templates and even some really cool virtual planning tools, they’ve totally got you covered.

For the last house, I went with the Rake Me Over tiles in Bone.  This time I wanted something with a little more pattern and texture so I asked you guys to help me decide between Roadside Attraction and Vintage Vibe.

Like me, you all seemed to be equally in love with both patterns (thanks for the help there guys) so in the end I just went with my gut.  I’m really happy with the Roadside Attraction tiles.  The thick herringbone reminds me of a cozy sweater and it adds just the right touch of warmth to the room.

Coincidentally, after I made my choice I spotted this gorgeous room done by Emily Henderson using the runner up pattern, Vintage Vibe.  Super pretty bohemian look, right? Honestly, I don’t think I could have gone wrong either way.
