A simple fall wreath DIY - love how you can change the colors and foliage to easily take it from fall to winter.

Simple DIY Decor: Holiday Wreath

We’ve got another project from our new eBook, Hands-On Holidays: Simple Ideas to Make Memories October through December, today. This one is a favorite of mine because it’s a great project to do with younger kids or to let older kids tackle alone.  It’s a money-saver too as it can easily transition from one season to the next with just a few tweaks.  Enjoy!

Welcome fall!

Recently, I’ve been dying for a new wreath to don my door. And fall was the perfect occasion to make one.

I actually re-purposed my old Spring wreath. But if you are starting from scratch, you will need one 16″ foam wreath form. You will also need:

  • 3/12 yards burlap ribbon
  • craft felt (your colors of choice)
  • hanging ribbon (color and pattern of choice)
  • sewing pins
  • burlap twine

This wreath is so easy, you almost don’t even need a “how-to.” But here it goes anyway…

First, wrap your foam wreath with the burlap ribbon, securing the final piece into place using your sewing pins.

Next, use your remaining burlap ribbon to create a bow (the size of your choice) and secure to the base of the wreath (covering the pins you previously placed). Secure with burlap twine.

Take your felt and cut out three circles (one should be 1″ in diameter, the others 2″ and 3″ in diameter). Cut as many circle sets as you want flowers on the wreath. I chose to make four flowers.

Wreath2

Take your circles, the largest one first, and begin folding the edges to create the petal look. Pin around the folds you created. Then pin the smaller circles inside, creating your flower.

Once you’ve placed your bow and flowers, all that’s left is to hang your wreath. As a last minute touch, I added some dried flowers inside the bow to create a natural look.

I love that this wreath is such a simple fall look. You can even carry it into Christmas time, and even spring, just by making a few minor changes.

One wreath. Several seasons. Love that!
