Four Summer Drinks for Tired Mamas

Four Summer Drinks for Tired Mamas

Today Natalie’s got four of our favorite summer drink recipes – perfect for capping off a hot and a busy day.  Pick you4 favorite and invite your friends over for a BBQ this weekend!

Summertime is full of fun for the kiddies, but us mamas need a little bit of fun, too, don’t you think? Like a fruity drink for relaxation after a long, hot day of chasing the kids around. It can get truly tiring and the grownups need some refreshment after a hard day’s work!

I’m sharing a few recipes today that fit the bill perfectly. Not only do they taste great, but they’re full of fresh fruit juices to re-energize you before your next summer adventure.

Summer Drinks for Tired Mamas

Sweet Sunset Cooler (recipe here) This is my favorite drink of the bunch! Orange, pineapple, apricot and nectarine juices with optional rum. Perfect for an evening on your back porch.

Quick Blackberry Thyme Lemonade (recipe here) This version of blackberry lemonade comes together quickly with honey (instead of taking the time to make simple syrup and waiting for it to cool). I love the addition of fresh herbs (and vodka, too, if you like).

Summer Drinks for Tired Mamas

Pineapple Grapefruit Spritzer (serves 2) This drink has a nice, tart punch to it. It’ll really make you pucker up (so maybe you should drink it with your spouse!)

Ingredients

  • a few sprigs of fresh mint
  • juice of 1/4 pineapple (about 1/2- 2/3 cup)
  • juice of 1 grapefruit (about 1/2- 2/3 cup)
  • two shots of vodka (optional)
  • ginger ale, seltzer water or other sparkling mixer

Directions

Tear or chop up the mint leaves and split them between two glasses. Top with ice. Split the pineapple and grapefruit juice between the glasses as well, then add the vodka, if using. Top the juice with ginger ale, seltzer or other favorite mixer. Stir, add more mint if desired, and serve.

Cherry and Cucumber Melon Cocktail (serves 2) All the tastes of fresh, summer produce in one glass. Don’t leave out the cucumber- it’s delish!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups chopped watermelon
  • 1/2 cucumber, peeled
  • 1 cup cherries, pitted
  • 1 lime, divided
  • a splash of rum or cherry liquor (optional)
  • sliced limes, for serving

Directions

In a juicer, process watermelon, cucumber and cherries. (If you don’t have a juicer, puree the watermelon, cucumber and cherries in a blender and then press through a strainer.) Split the juice between two glasses, squeeze 1/2 lime into each glass and add a splash of rum or cherry liquor (if using). Add sliced limes and serve.

These are so delish-sounding! And I love that alcohol is optional (for those of us who can use all the energy we can get, or are still providing small people with sustenance from our bodies). I look forward to trying them out, asap…
And I look forward to following your blog!
