4 easy DIY gifts for bringing the spa to mom

Mother’s Day Ideas: Sometimes It’s The Little Things

Mother’s Day is sneaking up on us and this year I’m all about gifts that will help bring a little more peace to every Mom’s day.  So today Anna’s here sharing three easy recipes for bringing the spa straight to mom.  And, as a bonus, I’m also over on eHow’s mom channel sharing a pretty project to encourage mom to drink more water throughout the day.  Check them all out and pick your pleasure.

Sneaking off to a yoga class, carving out time for a warm bath, a pedicure, a face mask – sometimes it’s the little things. I’d be lying if I said these feel little. They don’t. The truth is even getting the opportunity to run to the grocery store by myself gives me a buzz. And that alone is my reminder that I need to take care of myself.

I know that I am better at caring for my family when I feel taken care of, but somehow that doesn’t make it easier. Which strikes me as odd, because in the end my priority is being the best partner and mom that I can be. But that ‘s mom guilt at it’s worst – damn mom guilt, always sneaking in and raining on a pampering parade.

Lately, I have been making a conscious effort to treat myself in quick, cheap ways at least once a day. I deserve it, and you do too – every mom does.  In fact, we think these ideas would be a wonderful gift for your mom, your mom friends, or yourself this Mother’s Day. Here are some of my favorite pampering go-to’s:

  • Sugar Lip Scrub: In the mix- equal parts brown sugar, honey and olive oil. I usually just make enough for one small batch, so about a half of a teaspoon of each. Mix it up, apply generously to your kisser, let it soak in for a minute or two, and then rub it in to your lips in small circular motion to exfoliate. Wash it off with warm water and then apply more olive oil or coconut oil to moisturize. Make an effort to give out more smooches with those baby soft lips.
  • Epsom Salt Tub: I am a sucker for a warm soak. A couple evenings a week I take a super quick shower, so I am not soaking in my full day’s filth, and then draw a really warm bath. But I don’t stop there. I giddily add in two cups of lavender epsom salts. They are extremely affordable and easy to find. Add a couple of cups to a bath, soak for about 20 minutes and emerge relaxed, soft and smelling wonderful.
  • Aloe facial:An aloe plant is really a gift that keeps on giving. Best of all they are super cheap and hard to kill, so for all you brown thumbs, here’s a plant for you. Aloe has been called nature’s botox, and while clearly it is not as effective as botox in smoothing fine lines, it certainly does help. Beyond the vanity aspect, it is also great for cuts, burns, bug bites. A couple times a week, usually in the morning or evening, I will cut a half inch of an aloe leaf off and open it up length wise and gently massage the gel-like extracts onto my face. Let that cool goodness soak in, and see if you notice a change in your skin.aloe

So in lieu of Mother’s Day, but also for everyday, take time to treat yourself. You deserve it.
