Best at-home iced coffee recipe ever! (And there's a healthier version included too.)

Good Coffee

Happy memorial day weekend!  How are you spending your day off?  The family and I are working outside on the yard as much as possible.  Now that summer is officially here, I wanted to quickly pop in and share my new favorite summer drink – iced coffee via the Keurig.

I know the newest version of the Keurig has an iced coffee setting but mine doesn’t and, honestly, even if it did I probably couldn’t be bothered to think far enough ahead to buy the special iced coffee k-cups. Instead I go with this recipe, because if it’s good enough for Wolfgang, it’s good enough for me.

The secret is to brew a dark roast in the smallest cup setting and to add sugar to your cup before the coffee. Add the coffee to iced milk (repeat if you’re feeling like a double) and you’re good to go.

P.S. Since first posting this recipe last year, I’ve developed a healthier version that I try to stick to on most days. Basically instead of the sugar I use a few drops of Stevia. It does take a little while for your palate to adjust, I’m not gonna lie. But after drinking it for nearly a year, I’m totally used to it and look forward to my iced coffee just as much as I ever did. A bottle of Stevia is also kinda spendy, but don’t worry, they last FOREVER. I only put 2 – 3 drops in my drink and I’m still on the original bottle. Hope you’ll try it!

I am a fan of iced coffee! I will try it out. Where did you get the cup? I am on the hunt for a bunch of them. Some for end of year gifts and some for us for smoothies and iced coffee’s.

Warmly,

Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth,

Found mine at Fred Meyer but I’m pretty sure Target has them too.

I’ve never had luck with those. I’ve tried two kinds and even used espresso to try and get a strong cup of coffee, but no luck. I’m not sure what I”m doing wrong, but it always turns out weak. I’ve heard of several other people having the same result but then hear from people who have the same experience as you.

Hi Sally, try to buy K cups where the expiration date is far away, 3 months or so. I find that’s when you can get a stronger cup of coffee. As it get’s closer and even after the date, you can still use them, it’s just that the flavor is not as bold.

Just toss a few tbsp (follow directions) of coffee into a french press with filtered water overnight in the fridge. Press in the morning and serve over ice. I just stir in my favorite creamer and I go. This cold brew method makes a far less bitter and more concentrated iced coffee.
