It’s Cyber Monday, which means if you weren’t standing in line in the middle of the night on Friday then you may be preparing for some serious online shopping today (will the madness never end?).
These are a select group of toy makers who (I think) have really figured out how to make fun, stimulating (and often green) developmental toys. Under each brand are a few of my favorite items but they’re there solely as a jumping off point. Almost any toys made by these companies will be a sure hit.
The low down:
A boutique toy manufacturer that specializes in educational games and gifts that are 100% original (no licenses). Literacy, story telling, drawing, imaginative play and basic math are among the skills that eeBoo products encourage and a good share of the line has been awarded Oppenheim Best Toy Awards and other honors.
Committed to maintaining the highest standard of ethics while creating innovative educational toys for every developmental stage of childhood, their products are made from non-toxic, natural materials such as organic rubberwood. These toys inspire children’s imagination as well as promoting their physical and intellectual development.
Green Toys Inc. makes an awesome line of classic children’s toys constructed from recycled plastic and other environmentally friendly materials. This helps reduce fossil fuel use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improving the overall health and happiness of the planet.
Products are thoughtfully designed with lots of opportunities to explore built right in. Toys engage and stimulate children again and again with a rich variety of shapes, colors, and sizes — so the possibilities for open-ended, creative play are limitless. And when children’s play is powered by their own imaginations, they develop skills they’ll use for a lifetime.
It all began with a messy toddler bathtub. Designer Rebecca Finell’s wheels started turning and the Frog Pod was born. But the problem solving didn’t stop there. She had lots of ideas for other parenting innovations so she sought out a partner, Ryan Fernandez—who could create a successful business—and together they founded Boon Inc. Today Boon offers a wide range of products that help parents all over the world. They’re committed to creating nothing but the most innovative gear—and keeping it affordable.
